Current understanding and management of chronic hepatosplenic suppurative brucellosis.
To outline the characteristics and define appropriate management of chronic hepatosplenic suppurative brucellosis (CHSB), 905 patients with brucellosis were analyzed. Sixteen episodes of CHSB (14 in the liver and 2 in the spleen) were found in 15 patients. Six patients had had previous remote brucellosis. Chronic hepatosplenic suppurative brucellosis (CHSB) is a local reactivation of a previous brucellosis, coursing with an immunoglobulin G (IgG) and IgA secondary immunological response. The observation of two cases of CHSB with an apparent IgM response gave rise to a detailed serological study of three of our patients. Factor XIII or "fibrin-stabilizing factor," is a transglutaminase circulates in the blood circulation as a hetero tetramer with two catalytic A subunits and two carrier B subunits. This important coagulation factor has a crucial role in clotting cascade and produces strong covalent bonds between soluble formed fibrin monomers during coagulation. This stable cross linked fibrin strands are resis...
